SIMPLE & QUICK: After a lifetime of anti-LGBTQ rhetoric and policy posturing, Lindsay Graham may be forced to sashay away

It is an Internet rule that if it exists, there is porn of it. Activism has reached all facets of American life in the past twelve days. On 4-June, activist and adult film model, Sean Harding, posted the following tweet:

There is a homophobic republican senator who is no better than Trump who keeps passing legislation that is damaging to the lgbt and minority communities. Every sex worker I know has been hired by this man. Wondering if enough of us spoke out if that could get him out of office?

Of course, salacious claims are posted on the Internet regularly. The President’s Twitter account is a sterling example. It is also unacceptable to out a person who is not yet comfortable with presenting their authentic identity to the world.

Politicians are publicly vetted to fulfill positions of public trust. In obtaining and maintaining these positions of public trust, the private lives of politicians often become part of the public discourse. This is especially true if their private lives intersect and contradict with their political posing and power of influence.

In this case, the concern is not the allegation that the senior Senator from South Carolina is LGBTQ+. It is that the Senator has subscribed to and pushed anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric and legislation throughout his career. The argument here is for former and/or current sex workers involved with the Senator to come forward with their stories because of the Senator’s anti-LGBTQ+ agenda.

It is because of the abject political harm Lindsey Graham has brought upon LGBTQ+ people while in positions of power that the community itself is rejecting this man. It is alleged that Mr. Graham has politicked as an ardent detractor of the community, while simultaneously using LGBTQ+ persons for sexual gratification. And for that allegation, it appears Mr. Graham may be politically ousted as a hypocrite— not outed as “Lady G.”
