SIMPLE & QUICK: The Donald & Company will take each other out as they go down together

Very large brains pondering the proverbs ask, “Is there honor amongst thieves?”

Many people believe that even criminals follow a code of honor. Others suspect that no code exists and to believe so would be naive. Instead, they suggest that any criminal code of honor ends where a new criminal opportunity begins. Americans are finding out.

When President Donald J. Trump commuted the 40-month prison term for his long time ally, Roger Stone, the egregious abuse of Presidential power ignited a fury of complaints. Since abuse of power is not impeachable for a GOP President under this GOP Senate, the story instead is Roger’s threat:

What does Roger, the self-described political trickster, mean when he says, “He knows I was under enormous pressure to turn on him. It would have eased my situation considerably. But I didn’t.”

Picked up by Secretary Hillary Clinton and discussed on MSNBC, Clinton says that President Trump used his authority “to basically shut up Roger Stone so that Roger won’t spill anymore beans about what actually happened and what Donald Trump actually knew” about the 2016 Election hack and on-going cover-up.

Hillary’s point comes into more focus when considering the recent Cohen conundrum. Trump’s former personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, was put back in solitary confinement after having been released to home confinement due to his Covid-19 risk. What is the difference? As always with Mr. Trump, it is loyalty and timing.

When Cohen’s office was raided and the former Trump fixer and lawyer was taken into Federal Custody, he did the unthinkable. Instead of waiting on the President to save him, he chose to cooperate with investigators about what he knew. Of course, for Cohen, the investigation centered on the “hush money” Trump paid to squelch the Stormy Daniels story prior to the 2016 election. This sealed Cohen’s fate as The Donald sees the Stormy Daniel cover-up as politically meaningless.

However, Mr. Trump does see conspiring with a foreign government to steal a US Presidential election as politically damaging. Roger Stone was convicted by a jury for lying to Federal investigators about Russia, WikiLeaks, and Donald Trump.

In fact, breaking his storied silence, Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller said, “[Roger Stone] lied by denying he had communicated with the Trump campaign about the timing of WikiLeaks’ releases. He in fact updated senior campaign officials repeatedly about WikiLeaks. And he tampered with a witness, imploring him to stonewall Congress.”

Unlike Cohen, Roger remained loyal to Trump by not cooperating with investigators. Cohen did not.

The story of The Donald & Company is of course far from over. No matter how the 2020 Election turns out, there is certainly more criminal mischief that will be sniffed-out from this Oval Office and the Administration of America’s 45th President. For now, very large brain Americans will continue to ponder their President’s honor.
